You can test some profiles with the vorpx beta on your own, because most of the dx12 games working with one of the list. Try first of all Resident Evil Village, Grounded, Death Stranding, The last of us, Cyberpunk 2077 and Red Dead Redemption.
It is very simple, check the local profiles for all DX12 Games, and if no profile can be forked and give you 3D vorpx is not compatible with that game.
You will get used to it to do things on your own, if you want to use vorpx.
If no user profile is working well, there will be released a official profile by Ralf of vorpx. But you will have to wait weeks, if no user profile works.

VorpX doesn’t seem to be launching games in my HTC Vive. When I launch a game, I can see that VorpX is attaching to the .exe but once the game launches, my monitor gets a black screen saying “Out of Range”. I can still hear the game audio but there’s no game running in my Vive headset. If I alt tab from the black screen on my desktop, it will alt tab to the game in windowed mode. I can hear the games audio throughout the whole process.
I’ve tried running VorpX in admin controlled mode, disabled SteamVR Theater mode both in steam settings and for individual game settings but have h ad no success. Would anybody happen to have a solution to this issue?
Hello, many years ago when I first bought VorpX back in 2017, I was getting games to run completely fine in VorpX. However, now when I try to run any game at all (Resident Evil 2, 3, 7, Village), my monitor receives a black screen with a message saying “Out of Range”. The game doesn’t seem to launch in my HTC Vive as I’m still in the SteamVR room in my headset.
If I alt tab on my desktop while I see the black screen, it will alt tab out of the black screen back to my desktop and show a windowed version of current game I’m trying to run. I can hear the in-game audio too, it just doesn’t seem to be launching the game in my Vive.
I should note that I’ve upgraded from a 1080 GPU to a RTX 4080.
If there’s any more information I can provide to help get to a solution, please feel free to let me know. In the meantime, would anybody be able to provide a solution to fix this issue? I can’t for the life of me figure this one out and I’ve been at it for over 12 hours now.
Steps I’ve tried so far:
Tried running VorpX as admin
Applied game profiles
Disabled SteamVR Theater mode, both in Steam settings and for individual games
Restarted Steam, SteamVR, VorpX as well as my PC
Ensured VorpX is set to “SteamVR (Index, Vive, Pimax)”
You need a profile that matches ! First try Elden Ring and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
After that, step by step all other profiles for games from FROM Software.
The Engine doesn’t really have a name. It’s a somewhat heavily modified version of the PhyreEngine which is a freeware engine provided by Sony with a lot of custom stuff added onto it. They also used Havok for physics in DeS, DS1 and DS2 however that doesn’t seem be the case for BB, DS3, Sekiro and Elden Ring. Sadly there isn’t really much information about it.
But many people say that’s a myth unfortunately !
But you can even try resident evil village, grounded, starfield, cyberpunk77 and Red Dead Redemption. because it is dx12 game in general !
Just in case: remember to not include the ()’s in the FOV settings. They should look like this:
[Camera]
fFPWorldFOV=130
fTPWorldFOV=130
And notice there are 2 separate ini files. StarfieldPrefs.ini and StarfieldCustom.ini. The Custom one needs to be created from scratch into the same folder as the Prefs one. Each needs it’s own [Dispaly] section and lines as listed in Daves post.
Thanks Dave for figuring things out. I’m not sure you really need the hex edit though. I used it initially, but changed back to my original backup and it seems to behave the same. I think the
fWideAspectLimit=1.0 does the trick on it’s own – no black bars. I set mine to 1.33 though to use a 4:3 res (3200×2400)
The vanilla FSR2 works fine with my Z3D, though certain scale factors can mess it up. Like the slider default 67% works fine at 3200×2400, but garbled at 2880×2160, which I set to 80% to fix. I’m using the Grounded profile as a base. Resident Evil Village works also, but I found the depth weighting a bit too strong at minimum. It would still be great to get a real one from Ralf with Starfield specific values though.
Anyhow, fun so far. Tonight was mainly testing, but tomorrow will start the journey.
Perhaps the there is a launch Parameter option for DX11, that would be bombastic! Imagine we will have Starfield in G3D ? With a dx11 option we can try to fix the old profiles of Fallout and Skyrim, until Ralf releases a official vorpx profile. For dx12 only i will try profiles of Resident Evil Village first, followed by Death Stranding, Cyberpunk 2077, and RDR2.
I purchased because VR is important for me but I cannot find an official cpu benchmark comparison and I do not know which CPU I should buy for best perfomance.
I am talking about getting best perfomance using geometric 3D.
For example ryzen 3600X + 3080 did not get 90fps (even at 720p, probably due to bottleneck) on Resident Evil 2 when using geometric 3D as it is a 3D person game with high graphics.
You once said that most important is single core performance, however since there are new ryzen X3D cpus which have “lower” single core perfomance but higher fps on regular games, is not clear for me if it will be better to have a X3D or worst.
Also, intel VS amd have a very different benchmarks on enconding/encryption/compression so do not know if this is relevant or not.
So I would prefer to have some security when purchasing an expensive CPU, because I am buying a more powerful CPU and GPU just for this.
Using Quest2 with Oculus Desktop app. and Geforce 3080 Ti. Works very well with RE (8) Village (after pressing play in Steam) but with RE 2 and 7, the screen just goes black after I press play in steam and after the game intro starts. I tried the beta non RT versions but no luck. Is there a specific profile or driver I need to look for?
Capcom updated their Resident Evil 2,3 and 7 games to their Resident Evil 8 engine, so maybe it’s causing problems to hook.
Have you tried other profiles ?
Personnaly, i play RE2 with Praydog VR mod.
Not sure if i am missing something here, but you can easily make vorpX hook into the game with using the HORIZON-profile, which i am using for most DX12 games these days.
Of coures you can´t use 3D-effects (z-normal is working here to some point) and full-vr mode is also out of any questions, but when it comes to hooking, that´s not a problem.
By the way, those RE2(remake)-profiles indeed don´t work with the updated version, so you must use, as i said, the horizon-profile.
is now not yet possible to play far cry 6 in 3d, with z-normal?
3D can be troublesome with DX12, in certain cases certain games still keep running in 3D (if i remember correctly then HORIZON ZERO DAWN was one of the few still running in 3D even it uses DX12)
FARCRY 6 seems to be running with DX12 since one of its latest updates, so there was happening the same with RESIDENT EVIL (remake) getting a DX12-Update and since then refusing to run in 3D.
I was enjoying RE in 3D by the way, until those capcom-dorks decided to update the game with DX12 so then i had to continue playing the game in “boring” 2D then LOL.
Seems to be a common thing these days to do updates on games and suddenly change from DX11 to DX12, so i hate to say it but in certain cases it´s probably better to just pirate certain games and keep the game from doing certain more or less “useless” updates, especially when those are “destroying” a vorpX-3D experience that way.
Edit: Regarding your question, switching to 3D just made the glitch go away but i didn´t notice any 3D-effects so i am afraid the answer is “no”.
Okay, quick update on the matter since i installed my 4090 today.
First, it’s seems like a monster and a big upgrade from my 3090 (FE) even without DLSS 3.0.
I couldn’t test DLSS 3 yet, but i’m running Cyberpunk 2077 (VorpX version, not the dedicated VR mod, so it’s only Z3D) everything maxout at 4k with DLSS 2.0 set on “balanced”, and it’s butter smooth with a detailed image.
I’m using a reverb G2 and the biggest limitation seemed the refresh rate (90hz only).
While driving the fasted car at high speed, i had some regular stutter which seemed to be loading a new zone. I will test further about this stuttering.
Seems like DLSS 3.0 need the new update so i will download it tonight and test tomorrow.
I will test later with the dedicated VR mod, real 3D should be more impacting than Z3D.
Outside VorpX, i tested Resident Evil 2 VR (Praydog mod) to try the raytracing version… it seems like the 4090 just don’t give a damn : 4k everything maxed out, even rendered the game at 130% in the lab, i don’t think i lost much FPS from 100%
Again, it seems that my headset’s refresh rate is the biggest limitation.
This was short tests sessions as i didn’t have much time after work.
